Christians' "Calling"

Question:
As an atheist, I had an interesting conversation the other day with a Christian regarding divine "callings" and placements. Philippians 2:13 = “…for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”
This verse basically says that God empowers you and places the desires within you to carry out what you're "called" to do.
So, would it be correct to say that if you're a Christian, whatever career aspirations you have are from God?  So God would never call you to do something you hate?

My Reply:
We have to also remember that God created us for His purpose. Everybody has skills that can be used for God's Kingdom, should they use them for Him. But not everybody has chosen or agreed to do so.

For example, since I was little, I always wanted to work in radio. My dad was in radio, so I grew up telling people about his radio station with great excitement and reasons for why they should listen to it. I advertised it, gave away game pieces and bumper stickers, answered the phones in the studios, and was always a part of the family of that radio station. Then one day, God called me to ministry, but He basically called me to continue what I was doing for the radio stations, only for Him now...tell people about Him with great excitement instead of the radio station; give people Bibles and information of how to achieve salvation and a relationship with God; instead of answer the phones in the studio, I answer questions on here...do you get what I'm saying?

Granted there are many who go into ministry kicking and screaming, but that's not because God is making them do something they hate, but usually because they don't want to give up what they're doing. So it's about obedience and trusting God enough to know that His plan for us is better than those of our own.

Rush Limbaugh and Conservative Christians

Question: Does radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh speak for most conservative Christians?

My Reply:
No, he speaks for himself. Try to remember...Rush is a radio personality...that means he's a ratings-digger first, before he's anything. Rush is also a controversial personality, so if he's going to blow something out of proportion, he needs to side with somebody...he can't be an independent because it wouldn't amount to anything otherwise. Honestly, if it didn't help him out financially, it wouldn't go any further than his news reporter's copy.
Remember also that many Republicans, though they may be conservative in their stances on the country, aren't very conservative in their Christianity.  I think Romans 13:1-7 speaks well on this.  Also, check out my blog for a post on this.

Anyway, as for me, I'm "conservative" in the sense of not being liberal in my Christian faith...and Rush Limbaugh definitely does NOT speak for me.

Hey, on that note, I saw Rush Limbaugh on William Shatner's "Raw Nerve" TV show one night, and they got onto the topic of what it means to be a Conservative.  Check it out here on YouTube.  Also, check out some of these other resources on Rush and Conservatives:

What's Your Biggest Nightmare

What is your biggest nightmare?

My Reply:
I have a background in radio. In College, we learned that something called "dead-air" is like the last thing you want to happen. That's when nothing is going over the air...it's just silent.
My worst nightmares are always about me being at a station; the song is about to end, and I don't have another one in front of me to segue into...nothing.
In some, I’ll run through the station during the dead-air in search of a CD, but for some reason can never find one in the station’s format.  Although I do believe that in one dream, I began playing commercials (on cart...looks like a looped 8-track tape), but they were only 30 seconds long, not enough time to search for another CD, and I was about to run out of them, too.  You’d think I’d let the CD play onto the next song or something, but for some reason, I never think to do that.

So yeah, odd I'm sure, but those seriously are my worst nightmares.
